Scientific Quality

To reliably produce high quality, companies must embark on a never-ending journey of learning and improvement. Indeed, this challenge is so critical to human progress that a preferred method has been established, and is in use around the world wherever learning and improvement are the goals. This method is the "scientific process".

The scientific process has four steps:
  1. The observation of phenomenon.

  2. The formulation of a theory to explain the phenomenon.

  3. Experimentation to demonstrate the truth or falseness of the theory.

  4. A conclusion that validates or modifies the theory.

This same process can be used to improve the quality of your company's products and services. Indeed, this process is preferable to all others, because it makes no assumptions -  it tests them. It establishes a rigorous method for examining assumptions and theories, and so provides a concrete basis for business decisions. From time to time, certain business people may argue that there is no time for such a process. But this process need not take a great deal of time, and where there is no room for error it is quite simply the only way to go.
