Confidence, Capability and Competency

Carr would argue that what is called confidence in leaders is actually an expression of trust that the leader will do the right thing. The kind of confidence that today's companies most need to cultivate is an internal confidence, within each and every employee. Carr asks; "What is the difference between competence and capability?" He answers; "Competence is capability, with confidence." Often, employees have the capability, but lack the confidence to exercise that capability. To fix this problem, not only must companies develop the capabilities of employees, but also their confidence. This cannot be done by "Calling out orders and exuding confidence."
